Mount William Road Upgrade
Mount William Road is being upgraded in three sections to make the road wider, smoother and safer for all users including agricultural freight heading to the Lakaput bulk grain storage facility and tourists destined for the Grampians. The road is also the main route for local residents travelling to the Yalla-Y-Poora Tennis Club and Recreation Reserve.
Road sections being upgraded:
- 2kms from Gordon's Bridge Road and Yalla-Y-Poora Road
- 5kms from Yalla-Y-Poora Road to Armstrong Road.
Upgrade benefits
- Boost transport efficiency, lower supply-chain costs for primary producers, and improve their global competitiveness.
- Reduced travel times and levels of fatigue for drivers due to a smoother driving experience.
- Reduce the effects of dust being sprayed over nearby crops, due to the fact that vehicles will no longer need to veer off the narrow seal onto unsealed shoulders to avoid passing traffic.
The works
- Old road excavated and removed.
- New road built
- New drains installed
- Road sealed and line marked
- Safety barriers and associated safety signage installed.
The project is jointly funded by $5M under the Federal Government’s Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program (HVSPP) and $1.25M contributed by Ararat Rural City Council.
