Gordon Street Recreation Reserve transformation
The $4.725 million Gordon St Recreation Reserve redevelopment project was supported by over $1.86 million from the Australian Government under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program, $2.55 million from the Victorian Government under the Community Sport and Infrastructure Stimulus Program, and $315,000 from Ararat Rural City Council.
Delivered by Ararat Rural City Council with the endorsement and participation of AFL Victoria, Football Victoria, Cricket Victoria, and Little Athletics Victoria, the project included a multi-use pavilion with new and improved facilities including:
- Female friendly change rooms
- Multi-code club facilities
- Social space with kitchen
- New and upgraded playing surfaces to competition standards for senior and junior soccer, AFL, and cricket
- Purpose-built Little Athletics facilities
- Ninja Course
- New lighting, landscaping, walkways, accessible parking and improved irrigation and drainage
Gordon Street will become regional Victoria’s home of
AFLW, creating a centre of excellence and developing pathways
for women and girls into league football careers.
