Ararat Rural City Council is working on a project in collaboration with the community that will improve road safety in Ararat for all road users.

Council has engaged Geelong based civil engineering company DWB Engineering Pty Ltd to develop a comprehensive 'Community Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan'.

This year DWB has been consulting with different communities across our municipality, asking residents their thoughts about a wide range of subjects relating to road safety including:

  • Concerns around speed, road conditions and driver behaviour.
  • Potential solutions for safer road use for pedestrians, cyclists, children, seniors and people who use mobility aids.
  • Proposed improvements to signage, lighting and visibility.
  • Ideas around wildlife impacts on drivers and community education around road safety.

Community feedback will help shape the Plan, which will also draw from local crash data, the Safe System approach, alignment with higher-level policies, and proven best practice.

The Plan will be presented to Council for consideration in the New Year.

If you want to provide feedback to help us shape this Plan, before December 31, 2025 please drop a pin on the map above with a comment or complete the survey.

This project is supported by a $49,540 grant from the Transport Accident Commission’s (TAC) Local Government Grant Program.
