Ararat Active Transport Bicycle Network Upgrade

Funding has been successfully secured by Ararat Rural City Council to support a significant expansion and upgrade to a key component of the municipality’s transport infrastructure.

Ararat's cycling network is set to receive close to 10km of new and upgraded pathways, a project driven by Council’s Ararat on the Move strategy, which aims to provide opportunities that promote walking and bike riding as a safe, accessible and beneficial mode of transportation.

This renewed network of bike paths will provide better connectivity to several key locations across Ararat’s CBD including Ararat train station and the Barkly Street precinct, as well as local schools, workplaces, community groups and recreational facilities.

This project is supported by $266,000 received from the Federal Government’s Active Transport Fund, and a $133,000 contribution from Ararat Rural City Council.

The Active Transport Fund seeks to encourage an increase in active transport through the upgrade of existing and construction of new bicycle and walking pathways across Australia.
